Rthro (previously known as Anthro) is the 2nd most recent addition to avatar types for Roblox, first revealed during Roblox Developers Conference 2017. The term «Rthro» is most likely a portmanteau of the words Roblox and anthropomorphic.
These avatars stand out as being much more human-like when compared to the traditional «blocky» appearance that is commonly associated with Roblox avatars. With more refined joints on the avatar than R6 and R15, animations are also more human-like. Most existing catalog content, such as hats, shirts, and pants are compatible with this avatar type.

Scaling
Rthro characters use the Body Type scaling option. 0% is a classic R15 character, while 100% is a full Rthro character. Body Type makes your character taller, and more human-like.
The Proportions scaling option is also sometimes used with Rthro characters. Proportions makes your character a bit shorter with slightly wider hips. (Proportions will only take affect if your Body Type is greater than 0%.)
Bundles tagged with «RTHRO» in the Catalog automatically set Body Type to 100% when equipped. Some Rthro bundles will also set Proportions to 100%. Many Rthro bundles are designed to be used with Body Type 100%, but they can be scaled down if the player want.
There are two types of Rthro characters: Rthro Normal and Rthro Slender.

Between the time that Anthro was initially announced and when it was released, users have found the main files for Rthro inside Roblox’s files. Many videos have surfaced on websites such as YouTube about this. These included faces, or what Roblox called «face projections», legs, textures for bodies, actual bodies, and other unconfirmed avatars. The original avatars were named Ken (male avatar) and Barb (female avatar) by Roblox, following a similar naming fashion to the male [2] and female [3] Barbie dolls.

On May 30th, 2018, an announcement was made on the Roblox Developer Forum showcasing two new sliders for the Scale section in the Avatar Editor, which led many to believe Rthro had released due to the ability to scale avatars to more realistic shapes. CloneTrooper1019 confirmed this as false on his Twitter, where he states that the scaling were what Rthro evolved into.

On October 15th, 2018, another post was made to the DevForum explaining the next stage of Anthro in full detail, and also referred to it as ‘Rthro’.

Many Roblox users have criticized the realism of Rthro after it was initially announced. Many arguments suggest that the former avatars were too realistic for Roblox and would only serve to push the platform further towards the uncanny valley due to conflicting with the well-known blocky appearance of avatars. Users also expressed concern that Rthro will replace the more traditional R6 and R15 avatar types, however this was confirmed to be false. There were also fears that the new character style would not be compatible with certain hats and gears, and some also believed that Rthro would encourage online dating.
From influencers
At RDC 2017 and on the Dev Forum, multiple Roblox Developers commented on their dislike for Rthro and made jokes about it. Additionally, several Roblox YouTubers have heavily criticized it, claiming that it would be used by online daters.
Post-release
After the scaling options and first Rthro bundle were released it became controversial quickly, but it was not received as negatively as people had thought. While Rthro bundles are still criticized to this day, they are generally accepted by the community as seldom used in their entirety, and their general usage has primarily come from some players (usually children), trolls, and players who only purchase the bundles for specific parts such as the face or limbs (in a similar vein to the Headless Horseman and Korblox Deathspeaker bundles).

The package itself was reported to have some flaws, where many users had issues with the head in particular as it would often not scale correctly or cause other body proportion issues when worn. Roblox has purchased the rights of some avatars from third-party stores like Unity and used them as Rthro avatars which drew some criticism despite Roblox being allowed to do so.

Description
On February 8, 2019, the winners for the first contest were announced. [5] The first bundle, Amory the Undead Necromancer, was released on the same day.
On May 14, 2020, the winners for the third contest were announced. [7] On June 17, 2020, another winner was edited into the announcement blog post.
On July 23, 2021, the winners of the fourth contest were announced.
These contests are hosted on Twitter and required players to send their submissions as a reply to their official contest tweets.

Participation
In order for users to participate in a contest, they have to either use paper, a 2D drawing program or a 3D modeling program to make a sketch of an Rthro model that they would like to see in the catalog. They then have to reply to the official contest tweet with their submission. Users are not allowed to steal online pictures or send in someone else’s drawing(s). They are also not allowed to send in copyrighted images, as they would be disqualified. Meme and joke submissions were also disregarded.
Judging criteria
Rthro designs are judged and evaluated based on three criteria:

It should display a style unique to Roblox.
Appeal
It should display the fun personality of Roblox.
Creativity
A design should be something no one has seen before.

Classic Roblox head
Heads are items in the Roblox avatar shop that change the initial shape of a player’s head. There were a total of 16 heads, none of them being limited or limited unique.

History of Heads
Most heads were released on December 17, 2008, with the exceptions of the «Fat Head», «Peabrain», and «Diamond», which were released February 1, 2009.
Due to the unpopularity of the original heads back in 2008 to 2009, Roblox stopped making separate heads for a while until January 2017, when they started making separate heads again that are all suited to be able to wear hats on them.
On January 16, 2017, all heads, except the Roundy, Trim and Blockhead, were taken off-sale. This resulted in the community being disappointed and strongly disliking the change because the Peabrain was highly liked by the community. However, 5 new heads were released, and those 5 heads are currently on-sale.
When Rthro was released on October 22, 2018, Roblox started making new heads to be bundled with Rthro. These heads can often be found used in meme/troll avatars due to how small and out of place they look when equipped onto most non-Rthro bundles or the default body. They are often paired with other meme items such as the BFG Giant Ears as well as both the Chill and 3.0 Man and Woman faces.
On August 19, 2020, the classic heads from 2008 and 2009 were updated with slightly new meshes. This had caused a rumor that Roblox would bring back the classic heads.

This is a list of all Roblox heads excluding heads which were created specifically for bundles (besides the Headless Head and iBot Head).
Files
There are 17 different types of mesh files inside of the Roblox local fonts file, which contains every mesh of these heads, including the normal Head, Roundy, Trim and Blockhead, the off-sale catalog heads which do not use a special mesh ID, but use Bevels which were removed. These are now seen as identical cylinder meshes and normally break when the humanoid is removed, however the mesh files do not break as they are special meshes.
