You can’t just buy this game on Steam and click play. You need a account at Frontier as well. They also send you a code to your email which will allow you to log into the game.

Also if you bought the game from a scam site then I have no sympathy for you. Either buy the game from Steam or Frontier Developments.

If every single one of you bought it from the site that shall not be named then honestly I have no sympathy if you got scammed.

The site that shall not be named isn’t an official key reseller and is notorious having very low standards when it comes to where they get there keys.

Responses like these make me just wanna get my Steam refund and not even bother trying to solve the issue.

That’s not how it worked for me. You only need to link your Steam account to your Frontier account, no codes or such required. Once you linked your accounts you then start the launcher and things should work. But the registration process is seriously flawed, after I had linked my account (which wasn’t easy!) I still couldn’t play at first. Only after 20 or so minutes did everything simply start to work automagically.

Also. definitely beware not to use the generated icon but start the game from the Steam library at first (so: access your library using the Steam client and use the launch option there). If you don’t then that too can interfere with the authentication process.

3) MOST IMPORTANT STEP: CLOSE THE LAUNCHER.

5) Come back and relaunch the game, launcher opens, click play

It would have worked if you have just waited a little, too, without reinstalling. 😉

If you see other people reporting the same problem at the same time with you, then it’s probably not related to your local installation, and reinstalling is not going to fix it.

I’ve actually tried this. My launcher has no «Log out Machine» button, anywhere. I only have one launcher and the options menu doesn’t have that in there. It’s too bad all the advice I can find is either old(people saying activate my key. they don’t give keys on steam anymore) or irrelevant like this. I appreciate it, I’m sure it worked for you but this is just one in a pile of solutions that aren’t an option on my second-class customer version of the game.

Доброго времени суток, купил игру Elite: Dangerous посл скачал чрез стим. Запустил, зарегистрировал аккаунт по указанной ссылке https://www.elitedangerous.com/ru/register?key только ключ уже в ссылке стоял. Вел все данные, после зашел в личный кабинет и в разделе Partner Keys связал стим и сайт. При входе в игру после ввода логина и пароля высылает автоматом ключ вертификации, после ввода ключа снова выводиться форма авторизации.

Пробовал перезагружать комп и отключал антивирус, какие еще танцы с бубном нужно сделать и почему не пускает в игру.

В моем случае надо было ввести ключ от игры в личном кабинете Элиты, после этого заработало.

Элита и без стима работать может, раз ты элементарную регистрайию сделать не можешь, то играй без стима.

С тесо было подобный случай, пока люди не начали абузить коды и возвращать деньги и так каждую неделю делали, играли бесплатно, тогда ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ы только довели регистрацию до ума.

Как раз таки при создании аккаунта сказано что нужно активировать ключ, и даже есть поле для ввода ключа. У тебя видимо не только кривые руки, а ещё и зрение плохое.

Ты до кода верицикации должен дойти только после создания аккаунта и регистрации ключа. Но видимо многие люди избранные.

I also have the game on my Epic account, but have not installed it yet. Since I also played the game heavily on Xbox one X, it’s likely I’ll have the same issue.

Is there currently a fix available for this?

So rather than fix the current situation, «just make a new account» is the way forward?
That’s not really a fix though is it.
Also, besides having to get him to actually create another email address, it’ll be different than the one on his Epic account, so that’ll not work either.

There must be an official way of linking account emails for multiple platforms.

I thought there was a way to sign into your xbox account in the EPIC launcher allowing you to play on PC the game from XBOX. Use the sign in under XBOX when signing into the EPIC/ED launcher.

I was having this issue. Installed via Epic launcher. the Elite: Dangerous Launcher required me to link my Epic games account. I did so, then was left with two buttons, Login or Link account.

if I tried to link account, it took me to a frontier webpage that said the account had already been linked to a user.

if I hit login, it would send a verification code to my email, which when punched in would return with «Please Purchase/Redeem to continue».

if I tried to close the launcher, it would tell me to first complete linking my account before closing, and would refuse to close it.

I eventually forced-closed the launcher, and reloaded via my epic games library, and now the Elite: Dangerous launcher has only a Play option, and I have now launched the game accordingly.

if you have already linked your epic games account and it’s still fighting you, try force closing the launcher, because it seemed to get me out of the loop.

Thank you for the tips above, they sadly didn’t make any difference. I retried using a another email account since nothing seemed to be working and now I’m getting this error message when I try to launch the game: «Exception initializing application: Objektreferensen har inte angetts till en instans av ett objekt». I’m on a Swedish Windows so the translation would be «The object reference has not been provided in an instance to an object.» My guess would be that it is missing some dependent Windows software libraries?

Step 1 : Search Elite Dangerous Horizons on store search press enter

Step 2: Click the Elite Dangerous game thumbnail on the results

Step 3: When your on the store page, scroll a bit lower where you can read «Game is already in the Library» you can see a «BLUE PLAY BUTTON» under it and it will reload back the game to Elite Dangerous Horizons.

My Theory is that the game Launcher was set back to the Basic Elite Dangerous game and not The Elite Dangerous Horizons Launcher version which is blue colored theme launcher as you notice. That might causes the bug of Steam and ED Launcher.

Do you have your Commander’s name on top of that orange launcher? It looks like the launcher doesn’t see your login. Have you used «Steam Log In» button on the launcher when you logged in for the first time?

Have you tried to click on Steam Log In? It should link your account back to the launcher, and change your launcher to blue.
