BLOCKCHAIN, CRYPTO AND BITCOIN – WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
The 3 notions of blockchain, cryptocurrency and Bitcoin are closely related. Indeed, the pseudonymous Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto actually created Bitcoin, the first successful cryptocurrency ever, and blockchain, i.e. the technology that supports it. It means more freedom and independence to make your own moves. More equality, transparency and privacy regarding all your actions. Let’s start with the obvious: our world is digitizing. In 2020, close to 60% of the world’s total population uses the Internet and that number is still growing. The democratization of the Internet at the beginning of the 21st century came with new habits and practices: blogs, chatting, playing… Which is great! Because that’s why the Internet has been created: allowing peer-to-peer information sharing, without middlemen or central authority. In other words: the decentralization of information.

However, as designed, the Internet does not allow value to be shared in a decentralized manner. If you want to share a file or a song with a friend, via WeTransfer or email for example, you actually send a copy of the file, and keep the original on your device. But if you send one dollar to a friend while keeping that same dollar, the dollar loses its value.

The only way to exchange money was through intermediaries, whether they be digital or physical (there you are banks). So the million-dollar question was: how to extend decentralization to the sharing of value? In other words, how to create a digital currency that would allow peer-to-peer transactions?

The answer came up in 2008 with the birth of Bitcoin, the first cryptocurrency. When its creator Satoshi Nakamoto published the white paper called Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System. With this pretty descriptive title, it explains what Bitcoin is and how it works. By doing so, it had carved the path for the cryptocurrency ecosystem and market as well as a new way to share peer-to-peer value.

Откуда появилась идея метавселенной

Первое представление о метавселенной появилось в 1992 году в научно-фантастическом романе Нила Стивенсона «Лавина». По сюжету книги в XXI веке на Земле царствует корпоратократия — вся власть принадлежит крупным корпорациям — и помимо реального мира, который окутан хаосом и расколот на несколько государств-корпораций, существует другой — виртуальный. Там люди точно также взаимодействуют друг с другом. Реальный и виртуальный миры переплетены: события в одном могут влиять на то, что происходит в другом. Эта же книга стала источником термина «аватар».

Сейчас метавселенной можно дать вполне четкое объяснение — это конвергенция физической, дополненной и виртуальной реальности в общем онлайн-пространстве. Пример взаимодействия метавселенной и реального мира — фильм «Первому игроку приготовиться».

Как устроена метавселенная

Прообраз Матрицы в реальном мире — это интернет. Крупные игроки из мира всемирной паутины и технологий уже строят планы созданию метавселенной. Например, в 2021 году Марк Цукерберг анонсировал старт работ над «трехмерным интернетом», которые полностью поменяет наше представление о взаимодействии с контентом — мы будем не потреблять информацию, а находиться внутри нее.

Концепций метавселенной много, но самая известная принадлежит венчурному инвестору Мэтью Болу. В своем представлении Бол приводит семь характеристик другого мира.

Проектирование метавселенной актуально в образовательной и корпоративной среде, в сфере коммуникаций.

Первые шаги к метавселенной

Недавно компания Facebook выпустила новое приложение для шлема виртуальной реальности Oculus Quest 2. Horizon Workrooms — это виртуальное пространство для всех, кто работает удаленно. Подключиться к такой встрече можно без использования VR-очков или шлема, достаточно компьютера. У каждого участника есть свой аватар. На сегодняшний день Horizon Workrooms не выглядит как метавселенная, пока что это больше похоже на тестирование технологии: приложение поддерживает функцию отслеживания рук, стриминг видео с удаленного рабочего стола, пространственное аудио, а также может синхронизироваться с календарями Outlook и Google. Внутри есть трекер глаз, лица, частей тела, что помогает аватарам двигаться плавно. Система может даже контролировать мимику владельца. Одновременно на виртуальной планерке могут собраться не более 50 человек.

На самом деле, технология не совсем новая: Apple еще в 2020 году представил мемоджи: там эмоции копирует не только аватар, похожий на человека, но и те, что изображают животных, и даже единорог.

Еще один проект Facebook — Infinite Office, который создан для работы из дома через те же Oculus Quest. На что-то более технологичное компания пока не решилась. Недавно Facebook совместно с Ray-Ban выпустили умные очки, которые изначально должны были обладать инструментов для распознавания лиц. Но позже от этой задумки отказались, побоявшись, что такая технология может стать инструментом для вторжения в частную жизнь.

Microsoft тоже не осталась в стороне. Глава компании Сатья Наделла считает, что набор облачных сервисов Microsoft Azure — это в каком-то смысле корпоративная метавселенная. Одно правило матрицы в ней точно действует: она смешивает два мира, создавая цифровые копии предметов и позволяя работать удаленно в смешанной реальности.

Помимо этого у Microsoft есть платформа Mesh, к которой можно подключиться с помощью VR-гарнитуры, планшета, смартфона или ПК. Все люди внутри Mesh существуют как виртуальные аватары из социальной сети Altspace VR, однако компания хочет перейти к «голопортации» — тогда люди будут появляться в виртуальной среде в виде самих себя.

Метавселенной заинтересовались и на телевидении. Телеканал Fox выпустит шоу музыкальных талантов «Альтер эго», в котором на сцене вместо участников будут выступать их цифровые аватары с «образами мечты», в то время как в жюри будут реальные люди.

Как зарабатывать в метавселенной

Метавселенная вполне может принести доход. Например, рекламой: внутри Fortnite проходят мероприятия, совмещенные с тем, что происходит в реальном мире. То есть, рекламодатели могут получить виртуальный мир, созданный специально под них. А творческий режим дает почти безграничные возможности для кастомизации костюмов, игровых сюжетов и даже отдельных внутриигровых миров. Здесь хорошим подспорьем станет технология блокчейна. Защитить права на цифровое имущество, виртуальную недвижимость и землю может NTF.

Тем не менее, к полному переходу в метавселенную никто пока не готов. Инфраструктуры всемирной сети пока недостаточно, чтобы полностью перенести пользователь внутрь платформ. В одиночку никому не под силу понять механику работы метавселенной, но и делиться эксклюзивным контентом, если вдруг у кого-то получится, технологические гиганты не готовы.
