Also known by the more optically-appealing and readable name of «Nanocyborg Uberholocaust», NǽnøĉÿbbŒrğ VbëřřĦōlökäävsŦ claim to be an «ambient cosmic extreme funeral drone doom metal band» consisting of one Canadian and one British indidivual known as Wavanova and Dark Dude.

Legend has it that these two scientists met in 2006 at an Antarctic research station on Ross Island «while studying carnivorous Antarctic predators» where they «soon realized that they had very similar musical tastes and were both experienced bass players» and recorded «the sounds of the universe between its phases of life.»

b) Metal Machine Music can 🍴🚽&💀 Nanö put Lou Reed on the map.

c) Jupiter (the Roman dude, not the planet) shot a load in the primordial ooze and it produced the cosmos, Nano shot one in the ooze and Jupiter came out (the planet, not the dude)

d) before there was time and space, energy and matter, there were just 2 bass guitars, guess who owned em? That’s right. The Borg

e) They ARE (probably) the musical equivalent of the Liquid-hot
✌ «Magma» ✌
that Dr. Evil had on his island.

f) Stephen Hawking once did a paper on them: asking, “where are all the time-travelers from the future?” and then answering, “in this band OBVIOUSLY.”

g) TON 618 is a hyperluminous, broad-absorption-line, radio-loud quasar located near the border of the constellations Canes Venatici and Coma Berenices, approximately 10.4 billion light-years from Earth. It weighs in at a massive 66 Billion solar masses, which is almost as heavy as this band.

h) Charles Lyell had a Nanöcybörg tattöö before they were cööl.

i) They sound like the eerie million-year old echoes emanating from this heaps frostbitten cave on Enceladus which the VLA picks up occasionally.

j) Mötörhead have like 2 umlauts, which by itself is pretty hardcore, but Nanocyborg may as well have invented em cuz they got one in like every letter.

k) They sound like that subterranean train type thing that burrowed to the center of the earth in that heaps crap movie, can’t remember what it was called, they couldn’t be stuffed coming up with an actual scientific thing to dig through the earth so they just McGuffin’d out «Adamantium» or whatever, you know that film. The film sucked ass but this band does not.

By far, one of the most ludicrous projects out there. It’s not uncommon for albums to last more than half a day, and even less uncommon for singular tracks to be hours long. And yes, I said “Hours”. Plural. Even their EPs last longer than the average CD holds. The only band that eclipses them in this regard is Bull Of Heaven.

The music itself sounds incredibly minimalist. Icy, barren drones for the most part. Later works seem to be denser and more sample-heavy. I remember hearing that they mainly make their music by slowing down pop and rock songs. If so, that would be. interesting.

The fact that their backstory is so improbable is also a source of interest. Apparently they froze to death while recording a 26-hour long album, and were brought back by otherworldly beings. This has to be made up. Surely it has to be. It feels like a Weekly World News article.

So is this band a hoax? A parody? Are Dark Dude and Wavanova real people? Is the music made under this name by a duo, or one person? Who knows? All I know is that Nanocyborg Uberhalocaust is one of those oddities that I’m all over.
